Talagante, 15 de enero de 2025.- Esta tarde, el alcalde de Talagante, Sebastián Rosas Guerrero, presentó ante la Comisión de Medio Ambiente del Congreso Nacional los alcances de la primera Defensoría Municipal de Mascotas y Animales de Compañía en Chile, creada oficialmente el pasado 5 de enero. Esta iniciativa, inédita en el país, responde al compromiso del municipio con la protección de los derechos de los animales y al clamor ciudadano generado por la brutal agresión y muerte del perrito Tony, ocurrida recientemente en nuestra comuna.
Durante su intervención, el alcalde Rosas detalló los objetivos de esta defensoría, que incluyen la atención de casos de maltrato animal, la promoción de la tenencia responsable y la educación comunitaria en torno a los derechos de los animales. “Este es un paso histórico para Talagante y para el país. Queremos sentar un precedente y demostrar que la protección animal debe ser una prioridad en cada comuna de Chile”, destacó el edil.
La exposición fue recibida con gran entusiasmo por los diputados presentes, quienes expresaron su apoyo transversal a esta iniciativa pionera y felicitaron al alcalde Rosas por su liderazgo en esta materia. Además, manifestaron su interés en replicar este modelo en otros municipios del país.
En la ocasión, el alcalde Rosas también hizo un llamado al Congreso para revisar la legislación vigente, solicitando mayores atribuciones y recursos para los municipios que permitan prevenir y sancionar de manera más eficaz el maltrato animal. “La muerte de Tony es una herida en nuestra comunidad, pero también un llamado a la acción. Necesitamos herramientas legales y financieras que nos permitan proteger a quienes no pueden defenderse por sí mismos”, señaló.
Con la creación de la Defensoría Municipal de Mascotas y Animales de Compañía, Talagante reafirma su compromiso con el bienestar animal y se posiciona como un referente nacional en esta causa.
